About the Artist

William T. Wright (1851-1917) was born in Rothwell, Northamptonshire.  He was the nephew of the renowned painter Sir Alfred East. In 1881 Wright is recorded as living with his grandfather, Benjamin East, at 20 Lower Street, Kettering. He was a founding member of the Kettering and District Art Society, as well as its first Chairman. He was the first curator of the Alfred East Art Gallery, from 1913 until his death in 1917. The Gallery’s collection of around 45 watercolours by him forms a valuable record of the character of Kettering during the late 19th and early 20th century.
